Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has withdrawn from the forthcoming governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress scheduled for Thursday, pledging support for whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer.

Fubara announced his decision in a statement personally signed on Wednesday night and titled, “My Decision to Withdraw from the Rivers State Gubernatorial Primaries.”

The governor said his decision followed extensive consultations with family members, political associates, and close allies, stressing that the interest of Rivers State must come ahead of personal ambition.

According to him, leadership requires sacrifice and a commitment to the collective good, particularly at a time when the state needs peace, stability, and unity.

He expressed appreciation to his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices throughout the political process, acknowledging that many of them might feel disappointed by his withdrawal.

Fubara explained that his silence in recent weeks was intentional and guided by what he described as the higher interest of the state and its people.

The governor also hinted at facing intense political pressure and difficult decisions but maintained that his love for Rivers State influenced his action.

“As our elders say, not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace,” he stated, adding that some matters are better handled with restraint in the interest of peace.

Fubara thanked the APC for providing him with a political platform and also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his support and encouragement.

He urged party members and supporters to remain committed to the APC, describing the ruling party as a collective home for all loyal members.

The governor further clarified that his decision to step aside from the governorship race should not be interpreted as an act of fear or weakness.

He insisted that the move was borne out of conviction and the desire to preserve peace and unity in Rivers State.

Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of the state until the completion of his tenure.
