President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, replacing Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University with extensive experience in digital systems, public sector reforms and examination management.
The statement described the academic as one of the youngest professors in his field in Nigeria, noting that he would also become the youngest registrar ever appointed by JAMB.
It added that the incoming registrar earned a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent before obtaining a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a doctorate in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
Aina was also said to have attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The Presidency stated that the professor has spent over 15 years providing advisory support to government institutions on digital transformation and systems development.
He reportedly worked with examination bodies such as National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board on examination security and ICT-related reforms.
The statement further noted that Aina belongs to several professional organisations, including Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Tinubu expressed optimism that the new JAMB registrar would sustain and improve on the reforms introduced under Oloyede’s leadership.
The Presidency added that the appointment reflected the administration’s commitment to innovation, merit and institutional efficiency in the education sector.
