The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has uncovered hundreds of MDMA pills, popularly known as Ecstasy, concealed inside bicycle luggage carriers intended for shipment to Europe.
The agency disclosed the seizure in a narco-trend alert issued on Sunday by its Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
Babafemi, who shared details of the operation on X, warned Nigerians against accepting parcels or luggage from strangers without knowing their contents or witnessing how they were packed.
According to him, operatives of the anti-narcotics agency discovered the illicit drugs hidden within bicycle accessories during a recent interception operation.
He noted that drug trafficking syndicates had continued to devise new methods of concealing narcotics in seemingly harmless items to evade security checks.
“We’ll continue to warn that people should never accept any parcel or luggage they do not know its contents or that was not packed in their presence,” Babafemi stated.
“The ingenuity of drug trafficking networks to use virtually anything for drug concealment is alarming. In the attached video and pictures, NDLEA officers uncovered how bicycle luggage carriers were used to conceal hundreds of MDMA pills heading to Europe,” he added.
The NDLEA spokesman stressed that individuals found in possession of prohibited substances could face prosecution regardless of claims of ignorance.
“Always remember, possession makes you liable,” he warned.
The agency has repeatedly raised concerns over the evolving tactics adopted by drug traffickers, including concealing narcotics inside lipsticks, prayer beads, yoghurt containers, MP3 players, children’s toys and vehicle side mirrors.
