The Plateau State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of the notorious Sara-Suka cult group during separate operations carried out in Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
The command also disclosed that dangerous weapons and substances suspected to be hard drugs were recovered from the suspects during the raids targeted at criminal hideouts.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Alfred Alabo, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Jos on Wednesday.
According to him, the operations followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, to intensify efforts against cult-related activities and the abuse of illicit substances across Plateau State.
Alabo stated that one of the suspects, 18-year-old Adam Abdullahi, a resident of Yen Siminti in Rikkos area of Jos, was arrested at the Gengere area of Jos North.
He said the suspect was allegedly found with a double-edged knife, attire linked to cult activities and substances suspected to be Crystal Methamphetamine, popularly known as “ice.”
The police spokesman further revealed that operatives attached to the Angwan Rogo Division also apprehended another suspect, Khalifa Yusuf, 20, of Angwan Rimi, during an operation at the 011 Prayer Ground located opposite the permanent site of the University of Jos.
According to him, officers recovered a knife and dry leaves suspected to be cannabis from the suspect.
Alabo noted that the two suspects remained in police custody and would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
He added that the command remained committed to eliminating cultism and drug-related crimes in the state, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful and timely information.
