Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested five suspects, including a father and his son, in separate operations that led to the recovery of four firearms and other exhibits across the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement made available on Friday, saying the operations were carried out through intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance by divisional teams.
Odutola said officers attached to the Afon Division apprehended Fatai Adegbola and his 23-year-old son, Waliu, following a complaint of theft lodged with the police on May 22, 2026.
According to the police, Waliu allegedly stole a Tecno Android phone valued at N180,000 from a residential apartment earlier in May before detectives traced and recovered the device.
The spokesperson stated that a subsequent search conducted at the suspects’ residence uncovered a locally made pistol and a Dane gun hidden within the premises.
She added that in a separate operation, patrol officers from the Ilisan Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge abandoned around the Ilisan Remo Roundabout during a routine patrol on May 27.
“The recovered firearm has been secured while investigation continues to determine those connected to it,” the statement noted.
In another development, police operatives in Ode Remo arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Inioluwa Adesanya, over the alleged theft of a Dane gun belonging to a resident of the community.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly gained access to the victim’s residence while working as an assistant to a carpenter hired for renovation work before making away with the firearm.
The police further stated that the suspect confessed during interrogation and allegedly admitted being a member of the Aye cult group.
Odutola added that Adesanya also told investigators that the gun had been altered to make it easier to conceal.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, stressing that the command would sustain efforts aimed at combating cultism, armed robbery and illegal possession of weapons in the state.
The command added that all suspects and exhibits had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
