The Osun State Police Command has commenced a manhunt for a driver involved in a hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of two police operatives along the Osogbo/Gbongan Road in Oogi community.

The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident while speaking with journalists on Thursday.

According to him, the deceased officers, identified simply as Kehinde and Tobi, were riding on a motorcycle when a Lexus car rammed into them on Wednesday in Oogi town.

Ojelabi disclosed that the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, abandoning the vehicle behind.

“The two police operatives were travelling on a motorcycle when they were hit by a Lexus car. Kehinde and Tobi are the officers involved,” he said.

The police spokesperson added that the command had recovered both the Lexus vehicle and the motorcycle involved in the accident, noting that the exhibits had been taken into police custody.

He further stated that investigations had commenced while efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing driver.

“We have launched an investigation into the accident and are currently tracking the driver of the vehicle.

The Lexus car and the motorcycle involved have been recovered and taken to the station,” Ojelabi added.

He also disclosed that one of the deceased officers had already been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

The command assured residents that efforts were being intensified to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice for the deceased officers.
