Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers during a stop-and-search operation at the Second Niger Bridge and recovered a pump-action gun, live ammunition and other weapons from them.
The suspects, identified as Ugo Chukwu Kendirim, 25, and Odo Jude, 27, were apprehended by officers attached to the Department of Operations, DOPS, Buffalo Team on May 27, 2026.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, said the arrest followed a targeted operation carried out by the officers stationed at the bridge.
Edafe disclosed that the operatives intercepted an unregistered blue Hijet Cargo mini bus travelling from Anambra State into Delta State.
He explained that the occupants of the vehicle allegedly attempted to prevent the officers from conducting a search and reportedly threatened to record the operatives if the inspection continued.
Despite the resistance, the officers proceeded with a thorough search of the vehicle, leading to the recovery of a pump-action gun loaded with one live cartridge as well as two daggers.
“The Delta State Police Command has recorded another operational success with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a pump-action gun, a live cartridge and other incriminating exhibits,” the statement partly read.
The suspects were immediately taken into custody while preliminary investigations commenced to determine the source of the weapons and establish any possible connection to criminal activities within and outside the state.
Police authorities said further investigations were ongoing.
