A Delta State High Court sitting in Asaba has remanded a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, Usman Nuhu, alongside four other former police officers at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre over the alleged extrajudicial killing of a 28-year-old man, Oghenemene Ogidi.
The defendants were arraigned before the court on Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan, in Effurun on April 26, 2026.
The incident sparked widespread outrage across the country after a video purportedly capturing the shooting surfaced online and drew strong public condemnation.
The accused officers are being prosecuted under Charge No. DTHC/ASB/CR/M/66/2026 before Justice Marshall Onome Umukoro.
At the hearing, the court ordered that the defendants be remanded for 15 working days pending legal advice from the Delta State Attorney-General. Justice Umukoro also directed that all subsequent proceedings in the matter be conducted virtually.
The case arose from the reported killing of Ogidi in Effurun, an incident that attracted national attention and renewed concerns over police conduct and accountability.
Following investigations into the shooting, the Nigeria Police Force initiated disciplinary proceedings against the officers involved.
The Inspector-General of Police subsequently approved their dismissal from service and recommended their prosecution, citing alleged breaches of operational procedures and regulations governing the use of firearms.
The prosecution has continued to attract significant public interest, with civil rights advocates, community members and the victim’s relatives closely monitoring developments while demanding justice and accountability for the deceased.
