Tragedy struck in Suleja, Niger State, after suspected assailants stabbed a trader, Mustapha Musa, to death during a violent attack on his residence in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred at the victim’s home located behind the Niger Motel area of Suleja, according to police sources.

It was gathered that the attackers invaded the residence at about 3 a.m., fatally assaulting Musa before fleeing with valuables, including mobile phones and a motorcycle.

A police report obtained on Monday indicated that the case was reported at the A Division Police Station in Suleja, prompting officers to visit the scene.

The victim’s remains were subsequently evacuated to the General Hospital, Suleja, for preservation and further examination.

Musa, who traded at the Babangida Modern Market in Suleja, is survived by three wives and 11 children.

Narrating the incident, the deceased’s first wife, Amina Mohammed, said she was awakened by her husband’s cries for help during the attack.

“I heard him screaming, but after some time, the voice stopped,” she reportedly said.

One of Musa’s wives, who was in the room where the attack took place, sustained injuries during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Jamila Usman, a relative of one of the wives, said at least three men gained access to the compound, although it remained unclear whether additional accomplices were stationed outside.

She disclosed that the victim allegedly pleaded with the attackers and offered them money, but they ignored the offer and stabbed him in the stomach.

“They refused to accept the money. They attacked him and only left after confirming that he was dead,” she said.

According to her, the suspects carted away two mobile phones belonging to the deceased, another phone belonging to one of his wives, an ATM card and his motorcycle before escaping.

The Niger State Police Command has since commenced an investigation into the killing, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The incident has thrown the community into mourning, with residents expressing concern over rising cases of violent crime in the area.
