The member representing Ondo West Constituency 1 in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, has highlighted a series of legislative achievements, empowerment initiatives, and infrastructure projects undertaken during his three years in office.

Ogunwumiju, who also serves as Parliamentary Secretary of the Assembly, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Wednesday to commemorate his third anniversary as a lawmaker.

The legislator said his representation had been guided by a commitment to effective lawmaking, grassroots development, empowerment, and regular engagement with constituents.

According to him, one of the landmark achievements recorded during the period was the sponsorship and successful passage of the Anti-Land Grabbing Law, which was subsequently signed into law by the state governor.

He noted that the legislation had strengthened land ownership rights, curtailed illegal land activities, and improved the investment climate across the state.

Ogunwumiju described the bill as the first private member’s bill to be sponsored and passed in the Ondo State House of Assembly in more than a decade.

The lawmaker also listed several constituency projects facilitated under his watch, including the grading of inner roads across communities in Ondo West Constituency 1, installation of solar-powered streetlights, provision of transformers, and construction of boreholes to improve access to potable water.

He said communities such as Ajaye, Sora, Kogbona, and Barracks Road benefited from solar streetlight projects aimed at enhancing security and boosting economic activities at night.

On empowerment, Ogunwumiju disclosed that three editions of empowerment programmes had been organised for market women, artisans, youths, teachers, and small business owners.

According to him, beneficiaries received items such as tricycles, motorcycles, generators, sewing machines, grinding machines, deep freezers, hair dryers, clippers, and financial support to strengthen their means of livelihood.

He added that free cooking gas distribution exercises were also carried out on several occasions to cushion the impact of rising living costs and encourage the use of cleaner energy sources.

The lawmaker further stated that he had facilitated employment opportunities for qualified constituents in different government establishments.

Speaking on education, Ogunwumiju said scholarships and financial assistance had been provided to students through his “MA SORIRE” initiative, while educational materials were distributed to schools to support learning and academic excellence.

He added that interventions in the health sector included support for healthcare programmes and the donation of life-saving equipment to public hospitals through personal funding to improve emergency response and healthcare delivery.

The legislator also highlighted his support for youth and sports development, citing the sponsorship of football and table tennis competitions aimed at promoting unity, talent discovery, and youth engagement.

He revealed that one of his constituents had secured employment as an assistant coach with the state football team through his intervention.

Ogunwumiju said he had also supported religious and cultural activities across the constituency, including traditional festivals and community celebrations, to foster peaceful coexistence and preserve cultural heritage.

He stressed that his constituency office in Yaba remained accessible to residents and served as a platform for addressing community concerns and maintaining regular interaction with stakeholders.

The lawmaker expressed appreciation to the people of Ondo West Constituency 1 for their support and confidence in his leadership, assuring them of his continued commitment to infrastructure development, empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare, and enhanced welfare.

He also acknowledged the recognition he had received from various organisations and community groups, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Best Legislator Award in 2025, describing the honours as a motivation to continue serving the people diligently.

Ogunwumiju pledged to sustain efforts aimed at improving the living conditions of residents and accelerating development across the constituency.
