Suspected armed militia members have attacked Mbasa community in the Utange Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, killing one resident and destroying several houses.

Security sources disclosed that troops of Sector 1, working alongside personnel of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, received a distress call at about 8:30 a.m. on June 4, reporting an ongoing assault on the community.

The operatives were said to have immediately mobilised to the area, but the attackers had fled before security forces arrived.

A preliminary assessment conducted after the incident revealed that one person was killed during the attack, while several homes were set ablaze by the assailants.

Sources further disclosed that security personnel recovered two empty 7.62mm special ammunition shells from the scene, indicating that the attackers were armed with firearms.

The deceased victim was later buried by family members in accordance with local customs.

Military authorities said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

They also assured residents that security had been reinforced in the area to prevent further violence and restore normalcy.

The latest attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of Benue State, where communities have continued to grapple with recurring incidents of armed violence.
