A Nigerian man, Odumayo Olufemi, has appealed for help after allegedly receiving N100,000 from individuals he identified as bandits during a TikTok live session, claiming they later demanded N100 million from him.
As reported by Daily Post, Olufemi, in a video that has gained traction on social media, said he joined the live broadcast on June 6 after the hosts promised monetary rewards to users who followed their page.
According to him, what initially appeared to be a harmless online giveaway took a disturbing turn shortly after he received the money.
He alleged that after the payment was made, he received a message demanding N100 million, prompting fears for his safety.
The distressed man called on Nigerians and security agencies to intervene, insisting that he had unknowingly participated in the session and had no prior knowledge of the identities of those behind it.
Narrating his experience, Olufemi said he joined the live stream alongside several other participants who were also rewarded with cash transfers.
He explained that the hosts had offered money to anyone who followed their account, a gesture many viewers believed was merely for entertainment.
“After I received the money, I got a message demanding N100 million. Nigerians should please come to my rescue. I was among those who joined the live session and received N100,000,” he said.
Olufemi further claimed that other individuals who participated in the session also received similar payments.
The incident was highlighted during the “What’s Trending” segment of Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday, sparking discussions about online safety and the growing use of social media platforms by criminal elements.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the allegation.
