Nuhu was said to have sustained severe machete injuries during the assault, which occurred at his off-campus residence in Kalgo Local Government Area.
The university disclosed in a statement issued by the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim Magawata, that the student later died while receiving treatment at a hospital.
According to the statement, the deceased, who hailed from neighbouring Niger State, was attacked by a group of suspected hoodlums who invaded the hostel.
“It is with deep sorrow that the university announces the death of Zaharadeen Nuhu, a 300-level student of the Department of Biochemistry,” the statement said.
The institution noted that the incident had been reported to the Nigeria Police Force in Kalgo, adding that investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
In response to the development, the university said security surveillance had been strengthened around Kalgo and other locations where students reside off campus.
The management also disclosed plans to meet with operators of private hostels to discuss additional security measures, including improved lighting systems and the deployment of night guards.
Magawata urged students to remain calm and security conscious, warning against the circulation of unverified information capable of creating panic.
He advised students to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies, avoid unnecessary late-night movements and, where possible, move in groups.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of its students while extending condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.
Nuhu was laid to rest on Thursday after funeral prayers were held at the mosque of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi.
