Residents of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory were thrown into panic on Saturday after the decomposing body of a middle-aged woman was discovered inside an uncompleted building.
The victim, whose identity had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report, was found without her head in the abandoned structure.
Sources in the community said residents became suspicious after perceiving a strong foul odour emanating from the building and decided to investigate.
Upon entering the structure, they reportedly discovered the decomposing corpse and immediately alerted other members of the community.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the condition of the body suggested that the woman might have been killed several days earlier.
“The offensive smell coming from the building attracted the attention of people living nearby.
When we entered the building, we found the woman’s body without her head,” the resident said.
Another resident alleged that items found at the scene indicated the victim may have been restrained before her death.
According to the source, a blanket suspected to have been used in moving the body and ropes found around the corpse suggested that her hands and legs might have been tied.
The gruesome discovery triggered fear among residents, many of whom expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Police operatives from the Bwari Divisional Headquarters later arrived at the scene and evacuated the corpse, while investigations were said to be ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
