Insecurity: NYSC suspends deployment of corps members to three LGAs

The National Youth Service Corps has suspended the deployment of corps members to three local government areas in Kebbi State over security concerns.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Bala Dabo Kagarko, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the temporary orientation camp in Basura, Jega Local Government Area.

According to him, corps members will no longer be posted to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas due to the prevailing security situation in those areas.

“For the safety of corps members, we are no longer posting them to Augie, Arewa and Sakaba local government areas,” Kagarko said.

He also revealed that the scheme had earlier requested the relocation of its orientation camp from Dakingari to the temporary facility in Basura, citing insecurity as the major reason for the move.

The coordinator expressed concern over the declining number of corps members being deployed to Kebbi State, noting that the development was affecting critical sectors that rely on their services.

According to him, the state is experiencing a shortage of corps members, particularly medical personnel and teachers, needed in hospitals, schools and other public institutions.

“We no longer have enough doctors among corps members to deploy to hospitals, and there are not enough personnel for schools and other sectors where their services are required,” he said.

Kagarko further lamented that Kebbi currently receives the lowest number of corps members in the country, a situation he attributed largely to security challenges.

He noted that several appeals had been made to relevant authorities to address the issue but said no positive response had been received so far.

The development highlights the growing impact of insecurity on public institutions and service delivery in parts of the country, as authorities continue efforts to improve safety and restore confidence in affected communities.
