A wave of grief has enveloped Agoti Settlement in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State following the gruesome killing of an 18-month-old girl whose body was discovered with her head severed.
The victim was allegedly attacked by an unidentified assailant at a farm camp in the community on June 8, 2026.
The girl’s father, Bright Kalu, a farmer from Abia State, has appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies and human rights organisations to ensure that those responsible for the crime are apprehended and prosecuted.
According to Kalu, the toddler was at the farm settlement with her mother and siblings while he worked at another location some distance away from the camp.
Recounting the tragic incident, he said he was returning from a nearby settlement where he had gone to purchase food items when he noticed that his wife appeared distressed.
He said his wife informed him that an unknown person had invaded the camp and attacked her. Although she managed to secure the safety of three of their children, one child could not be found.
Kalu said he immediately teamed up with his elder brother, Ifeanyi Kalu, to search the area after receiving the report.
The search, he explained, ended in tragedy when they discovered the lifeless body of the missing child behind their residence within the settlement.
“My wife told me someone came to the camp and attacked her. She was able to save three of our children, but one was missing.
We searched the area and later found my daughter’s body behind our house. Her head had been cut off,” he said.
The distraught father urged authorities to intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The incident was initially reported at the Olofin Police Station in Idanre before the case was transferred to the Ondo State Police Command headquarters in Akure for further investigation.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident.
He added that investigations were ongoing and assured that the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of the probe.
