Suspected terrorists have attacked Tsamiya town in Kebbi State, abducting a resident and destroying several properties during a late-night raid on Saturday.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Sunday, saying security operatives had been deployed to the area to restore order and track down the perpetrators.
According to the police, the assailants stormed the community under the cover of darkness, shooting indiscriminately and setting multiple structures ablaze.
Among the affected properties were a temporary checkpoint operated by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a brothel, and the residence of a local resident, identified as Sule Mai Goge.
The attackers also reportedly whisked away a community member, Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare, during the operation.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the command disclosed that the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical personnel to the affected area following reports of the attack.
Usman said security agencies responded swiftly to the distress call and reinforced security presence in the community to prevent further attacks.
He noted that efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible for the assault.
“The Commissioner of Police immediately directed the deployment of additional security personnel to protect lives and property in the area,” the statement said.
The police spokesman added that a full-scale investigation had commenced, while security operatives intensified efforts to locate the kidnappers and secure the release of the victim.
The command assured residents of Tsamiya and neighbouring communities that security operations would continue until normalcy is fully restored.
Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing investigations and operations.
Authorities pledged to provide further updates as development unfold.
