Bandits flaunts suspected kidnap ransom [VIDEO]

A video purportedly showing armed bandits displaying large sums of cash allegedly obtained from kidnapping ransoms has surfaced online, raising fresh concerns over Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.

As reported by Daily Post, the footage, which has since gone viral on social media, was shared on Saturday by Bakatsine, a journalist known for covering insecurity and armed conflicts in Nigeria’s North-West.

Posting the video on his X handle, the journalist claimed the money being displayed was proceeds from ransom payments made to secure the release of kidnap victims.

“This video shows bandits flaunting money obtained through ransom payments. May Allah bring an end to this tragedy and grant Nigeria lasting peace,” he wrote.

The authenticity of the video and the claims surrounding it could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.

Kidnapping for ransom has remained one of Nigeria’s most pressing security concerns, particularly across the North-West and parts of the North-Central, where armed groups frequently target travellers, rural communities, schools and farmers.

Despite ongoing military offensives and other security operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks, incidents of abduction and violent attacks continue to be reported in several parts of the country, fueling fears among residents and calls for more effective security measures.
