No fewer than six people have been killed and three others injured in separate attacks on communities in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The incidents were confirmed by the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong.
According to the group, the attacks occurred on Saturday in Ta-Hoss, Riyom, and Sabon Layi in Barkin Ladi, while another assault was recorded in Kwi District, Riyom, in the early hours of Sunday.
The association alleged that armed assailants carried out the attacks, describing the incidents as part of a recurring wave of violence affecting communities in the two local government areas.
BYM said the violence began on Saturday afternoon when gunmen reportedly attacked farmers working on their farmlands in Rinyan Village, Ta-Hoss Community, killing one person and leaving another critically injured.
The group further alleged that later that night, the attackers invaded Sabon Layi Community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where three residents were killed.
It added that another resident lost his life during an attack on Kwi Village in Riyom in the early hours of Sunday.
The association expressed concern over what it described as persistent attacks on rural communities, saying the incidents have continued to claim lives, displace residents and disrupt farming activities.
BYM also called on security agencies to intensify intelligence gathering and strengthen operations across the affected areas to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of residents.
