An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, has ordered the remand of a 26-year-old man, Musa Bukar, at a correctional facility over allegations of threatening to kill a police officer and obstructing official duties.
Presiding Magistrate Lateef Owolabi declined to take the defendant’s plea and directed that the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until July 22 for mention.
Bukar, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge bordering on threat to life, obstruction of a police officer in the course of duty and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The prosecution, led by SP Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the alleged offences occurred on June 21 at about 2:00 p.m. in the Ogba area of Lagos.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant allegedly threatened to kill ASP Emmanuel Enofe, an officer attached to Area G Command, Ogba.
Ikhayere further alleged that Bukar obstructed the officer from carrying out his lawful duties by refusing to comply with his directives.
She also told the court that the defendant acted in a manner capable of disturbing public peace by allegedly claiming to be a member of a terrorist group.
The prosecution said the alleged offences are punishable under Sections 117, 168 and 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
