Many governors on Wednesday signed revised 2020 budgets into law.
The new budgets nullified those earlier approved by the Houses of Assembly and signed into law by the state chief executives.
Economic downturn occasioned by the global COVID-19 pandemic led to the changes in the year’s budgets so that governments could embark on more realistic implementation.
Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi signed N146,374,641,080.00 into law as against the earlier approved budget of N169,557,658,300.00.
This represents 13.67 per cent reduction in the initial budget size.
In Plateau State, Governor Simon Lalong signed N122,848,822,913.00 into law to replace the initial N177,340,521,174.00 budget.
He said: “For us as a state, the impact (of COVID-19) has been huge as our earnings have drastically fallen, even in the face of demands for funds to carry out statutory responsibilities and also respond to the challenges of the corona virus pandemic.”
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma yesterday signed N108,385,836,130 budget into law.
The governor said the revised budget holds a great promise in the fiscal history of the state.
In Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed on Wednesday signed the revised 2020 Appropriation Bill of N129.8 billion and six other bills into law.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mohammed had signed a N167.2 billion Appropriated Bill before the outbreak of COVID-19.
Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu also signed the revised 2020 Appropriation Bill of N99.6 billion into law.
This replaced the earlier N138 billion Appropriation Bill for the year.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde yesterday signed the revised budget of N174 billion for 2020 into law.
The government had proposed N169 billion from the initial N213 billion, but the state lawmakers increased the budget to N174 billion.
