Herdsmen Attacks : Yoruba Group (Odua Youth Coalition) postpones planned demonstration
A group, Odua Yoruba Coalition has postponed indefinitely ,its planned peaceful demonstration against incessant and unceasing attacks on the southwest region by fulani herdsmen and kidnappers .
A statement by Oluyi ‘Tayo Akintade,National President of the group said the indefinite postponement was due to security reports which according to him is not favorable.
The statement says “ Dear Oodua Youths both home and abroad, a few days ago, we intimated you of our plans to hold a peaceful demonstration on the 10th of June, 2019 at the Fashoranti Park, Akure, to protest the continuous, incessant and unceasing attacks on our mothers, fathers, siblings, friends and travellers on our roads.
The reason to hold this sit-out was born out of the passion for our motherland and the frustration that those saddled with the responsibility to guard and protect us are either playing with our security or have been cowed into submission by the powers that be.
We therefore regret to announce to you that the peaceful demonstration slated for tomorrow has been postponed and there shall be no protest in whatever form from any agent, organ and/or body of Oodua Youth Coalition(OYC). The new date shall be communicated.
The events and circumstances surrounding this unfortunate cancellation are beyond our control and we are deeply sorry that the hundreds that have been mobilizing for this are put through this inconvenience.
The security agencies in the state have stated repeatedly that the safety of our members cannot be guaranteed and we as an organization wouldn’t want the lives and properties of our members threatened by unscrupulous elements not really in tune with our agitations.
We remain steadfast and committed to the struggle for a better Yoruba land. ” The statement reads.
