Bashir Hadeija, a close aide to Nigeria’s junior minister of defence, Bello Matawalle, has been arrested for alleged gunrunning and smuggling of large caches of weapons, following multiple intel by a combined team of the police and the State Security Services, Peoples Gazette learnt. The Economic and Financial Crime Commission has made a case for a specialized court to try culprits of oil theft in the country. Michael Uzokwe, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede said this during the investigative hearing of crude oil theft in Abuja. About 20 people have been killed in floods that ravaged Bauchi and Jigawa states. The Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency said four persons died in the recent flood disaster in the state. The flood also destroyed houses, submerged farmlands and washed away some sections of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway.
