The management of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has confirmed the death of a first-year student of the institution whose lifeless body was found in a drainage on Friday. The deceased, Favour Okenyi, from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, was found dead in a drain near Akanu Ibiam Stadium, UNN. The university’s spokesman, Okwun Omeaku, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has arrested 243 suspected criminals from January to June. The FCT NSCDC Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, said this during an interview with journalists on Sunday in Abuja. Mr Odumosu said that of the 243 arrests, 123 suspects had cases for prosecution. He said that 159 people were arrested for their involvement in illegal mining activities, adding that the mines and steel departments have so far recorded 39 cases. The Transmission Company of Nigeria said the Police Command in Kaduna state has arrested four suspected vandals who were caught destroying transmission towers installed in some parts of the state. TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday. The general manager said that among the instruments recovered from them were shovels and diggers. The Transmission Company of Nigeria on Sunday said the national power grid has been restored following Saturday’s collapse. A former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Takai Shamang, has been abducted in his hometown, Biniki, in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
