Lagos State government said, yesterday, that construction of the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge is estimated to cost $2.5 billion. The state government had, in September 2020, announced an estimation of $2.2 billion for the construction. The 4th Mainland Bridge is a proposed 38-kilometer long bridge initiative by the Lagos State government, connecting Lagos Island by way of Lekki, Langbasa and Baiyeku towns, and across Lagos Lagoon to Itamaga in Ikorodu. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has suspended his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Special Duties, Abidemi Rufai, following his arrest in New York by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over his alleged involvement in $350 million unemployment benefits fraud. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu yesterday launched the First and Last Mile Bus (FLM) Scheme as an alternative to Okada. The buses are expected to ply the inner routes in the six local governments and nine local council development areas where Okada have been banned. The governor, however, said the total ban on Okada might not be enforced until another two months to give people enough time to get their cowry cards, gauge their response to the scheme and measure the scheme’s effectiveness. The Police in Ondo State have arrested a couple whose two-week old baby died while they were fighting over domestic issues. Witnesses said the baby was strapped to the mother’s back during the fight. The couple, Ekene Ijokun,40, and Rose Ijokun, 32, who lived at Eleyowo community in Akure North Local Government area, were said to always engage in fight. The National Examinations Council (NECO) has rescheduled the 2021 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) into Federal Unity Colleges from May 29 to June 5. This is contained in a statement by Mr Azeez Sani, NECO Head of Information and Public Relations Division in Abuja on Wednesday. Sani enjoined candidates, parents, guardians and relevant stakeholders to take note of the new date for the examination.
