Folasade Ogunsola, a professor of clinical microbiology, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG). The Court of Appeal has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to immediately call off its ongoing strike as a precondition for granting the union’s request to appeal a similar ruling of the National Industrial Court. The court, however, granted ASUU’s application on the condition that the union obeys the ruling of the lower court and calls off the strike immediately pending the determination of the substantive suit. Hundreds of youths yesterday staged a protest calling for the scrapping of the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
