The Federal  Government, yesterday,  extended the synchronisation  of SIM cards with the National Identity Number, NIN, to January and February 2021 for different categories of subscribers respectively. A statement  by the National Task Force on NIN and SIM registration, indicated that the Federal Government approved three weeks extension for subscribers with NIN from December 30, 2020 to  January 19, 2021. Worried about the mutated strain of COVID-19 manifesting itself in the United Kingdom, the Federal Government says it may impose a travel ban to and from certain parts of the world. The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has called on the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to extend the deadline for the planned linking of Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards to National Identity Number (NIN). The Association’s appeal follows a recent statement by NCC on the ‘Implementation of New SIM Registration Rules’. Oyo State government has said the 2021 budget was not padded.
