The Kaduna State Government says troops on internal security operations have rescued nine persons kidnapped along Kaduna-Abuja highway on Sunday afternoon. The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said this in a statement on Monday in Kaduna. Mr Aruwan said that the government received operational feedback that the victims were rescued by troops of Operation Thunder Strike (OPTS). The Senate has issued two queries to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) over its failure to remit N1.4 billion withholding tax and Value Added Tax (VAT) deducted from 33 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in 2015. Its committee on Public Accounts, headed by Senator Mathew Urhoghide, issued the queries to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Mr. Mamman Nami, who confirmed that the deductions were yet to be remitted. There were indications on  Sunday  that the Federal Government might adopt any payment  platform developed in universities as an alternative to  the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System. The spokesman for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Charles Akpan, who gave this indication in an interview with The PUNCH, however, gave conditions for adopting any payment platform apart from the IPPIS. Michael Alaje woke up early Saturday to his house being submerged by ocean flood. It was about 2 a.m. and the resident was more concerned about survival. He could not save any of his properties in the house. This flooding happened at Ayetoro, a riverine community in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, leaving Mr Alaje displaced. The Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON), a regulatory and administrative body of printers in the country, has challenged the federal government to release the names of the contractors awarded a multi-billion naira printing job.
