Labour has asked the government to reverse the raised petrol price and electricity tariff or be prepared for an industrial action after two weeks. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said the price of petrol being sold at between N159.92 and N162 per litre should be reverted to N121 – the price it was sold during the lockdown. It said a strike will be called on September 28 unless the issues are addressed. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said yesterday that its legal team has saved about $5.4 billion in court cases through the victories it recorded in four court judgments involving the company. The corporation has also extended the highly sought-after contracts to exchange its crude oil for imported fuel for additional six months. Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai has signed into law the Penal Code 2020, which recommends castration of child rapists. A statement on the official Twitter handle of el-Rufai @GovKaduna, declared any male found to have raped a child will henceforth be castrated while female convicts will undergo “bilateral salpingectomy.” It reads: “Malam Nasir @elrufai has signed the Kaduna State Penal Code (Amendment) Law 2020 which provides stiff penalties upon conviction for the rape of a child, including surgical castration for male convicts and bilateral salpingectomy for female convicts.”

Six persons were on Wednesday night confirmed dead in a multiple road accident along the Ilesa-Akure highway. The accident was said to have occurred at Igbara Oke axis, headquarters of Ifedore Local Government Area.
