Doctors at the University of Medical Science Teaching Hospital in Ondo State have suspended plans to embark on a strike over the non-payment of their salary arrears. The doctors accused the state government of using “divide and rule” tactics by owing some of them three months wages while others were being owned four to six months salaries. The Lagos State Ministry of Health has announced the recovery and discharge of 17 COVID-19 patients after testing negative twice consecutively. The ministry, through its verified Twitter handle on Wednesday,  announced the discharge of six females and 11 males. The latest discharge brings the total number of recoveries from the virus in the state to 649. Seven of the patients were released from Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, six patients from LUTH Isolation Centre, FOUR Gbagada Isolation Centre.

The House of Representatives has asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to reinstate the 470 workers allegedly sacked by the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited and the Warri Refining and Petro-Chemical Company. The Lagos state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has issued a sit-at-home directive to its members. According to a statement on Wednesday, signed by Saliu Oseni, chairman Lagos NMA, the directive takes effect from 6pm today. More than 50 essential workers, including doctors were said to have been arrested by the police in Lagos on Tuesday following the directive of Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police. A fire outbreak has occurred at the headquarters of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) in Abuja. TheCable could not immediately confirm the cause of the fire which began around 9am on Wednesday.
