An extra N560 billion may be needed by the Federal Government to meet university teachers’ demand for increased annual pay, a top government said in Abuja yesterday. The source, who is privy to the renewed negotiations between the government and university-based unions, however, said it might be “fiscally tight” for the plum sum to be made available, in view of declining revenue. Education Minister Adamu Adamu has said the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had remitted about N29 billion directly into the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF). Adamu spoke at a policy meeting on admissions into tertiary institutions yesterday in Abuja. The minister said the board had also granted over N1 billion to tertiary institutions and expended more than N2 billion on capital projects. Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has directed the Head of Service to dismiss officers who are receiving double salaries from the state payroll.
