The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on Kuje Prison in Abuja that resulted in the escape of over 800 inmates. Among the escape inmates were 64 high profile Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist’s including some of their Commanders. Bashir Magashi, minister of defence, says 64 Boko Haram suspects in Kuje prison in the federal capital territory (FCT) are missing. The minister spoke on Wednesday at a media briefing at the facility in Abuja. Gunmen had attacked the prison with explosives on Tuesday night. Shuaib Belgore, permanent secretary, ministry of interior, had said the assailants came to the prison “very prepared” with explosives. Controversy has surrounded the whereabouts of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, after bandits attacked Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, where he was kept. Two female passengers died on Wednesday when a 20-seater boat which departed Ipakodo ferry terminal in Ikorodu capsized. The General Manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who made this known in a statement, said the boat capsized almost immediately after take-off. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, has said over 600 of the inmates fled the prisons when it came under attack late Tuesday night.
