The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday seized 140 motorcycles and arrested 16 passengers and riders as enforcement of the ban on the operation of okada riders in the state commenced. The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday raised fears about the 2023 elections following the 20 million Permanent Voter Cards which were said to be lying unclaimed in its vault. Workers Unions in Nigerian Universities Say they have resumed talks with the Federal government renegotiation team on 2009 FGN/University based unions Agreement. THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday revealed that the population of people who performed first-time signups for the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) has risen to 10.2 million. This was disclosed in INEC’s fourth-quarter report which was released in Abuja. The report stated that 6.5 million people have finalised their enrollment. The electoral body declared that 2,928,447 people completed their registration online, while 3,615,798 registered physically. An analysis of the enrollment according to gender indicated that males were 3,253,441, while 3,290,804 were females. An unidentified man was rescued from committing suicide at a lagoon in Lagos state on Wednesday. He had attempted jumping into the lagoon from the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge but was rescued by patrol officers of the Lekki Concession Company (LCC). “Thanks to the quick intervention of LCC Patrol Officers, a young man was saved from commiting suicide on Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge,” LCC tweeted. A journalist with The Nation newspaper, Toba Adedeji, has been shot by police officials deployed to disperse some protesters in Osogbo. A student, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained was also injured by the police. A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday granted bail at N500million to ex-Imo Governor Senator Rochas Okorocha. Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a ruling a moment ago, rejected the object of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to Okorocha’s bail application. Justice Ekwo ordered Okorocha to provide a surety, who will sign and of the same amount. The judge also granted bail to Okorocha’s co-defendant, Anyim Nyerere Chinenye on the conditions attached to the administrative bail earlier granted him by the EFCC.
