INEC distributes sensitive materials to Ondo LGAs says they are ready for Saturday’s election

The Ondo State Acting Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oyekola Oyelami has expressed the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Oyelami, who spoke on Wednesday at the distribution of sensitive materials to all its offices in the 18 Local Government areas in the state.The distribution commenced amid tight security at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in the presence of political party representatives, journalists and security agents. The distributed sensitive materials include: ballot papers, result sheets, among others.

He said the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine, have been reconfigured and would be deployed.

He said the materials being distributed by INEC include, ballot papers and results sheets, adding that the materials would be transported to all 18 Local Government Areas of the state where they would be moved to the commission’s Registration Area Centres (RACs) before the polling units.

“By Thursday, these materials would be batched from there while on Friday, the materials would arrive at the RAC centres where they would pass the night and as early as 6 am on Saturday, they would be moved to the various polling units for the election.

“Aside from these, we would also be deploying the BVAS which has been reconfigured for the Saturday exercise. So, all of them are working perfectly now and would be used in the polling units,” the REC said.

While expressing INEC’s readiness for the election, Oyelami explained that out of the 18 political parties that registered in the country, only 17 fielded candidates to participate in the House of Assembly election in the state.

He, however, pleaded with the electorates in the state to troop out en mass for the exercise to elect their representatives at the parliamentary house.
