The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will soon give guidelines for resumption of activities in its offices across the country.

It hinted that the decision became imperative after the deliberation on its level of preparedness for the Edo and Ondo governorship elections and by- elections.

A statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Festus Okoye, noted that in line with the advisory and protocols outlined by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on combating COVID-19 on the gradual easing of lockdown from May 4, “the commission will meet on May 7 to review the situation in its offices across the country”.

The statement added: “The Independent National Electoral Commission met today, Thursday April 30 and deliberated on a number of issues, including preparations for the conduct of Edo and Ondo governorship elections, the upcoming by-elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Plateau states and plans for resumption of normal activities.

“The commission noted the advisory and protocols outlined by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on combating COVID-19 on the gradual easing of lockdown from May 4 and decided as follows:

“The commission will meet on May 7 to review the situation in its offices across the country and adopt a clear road map and guidelines for resumption of activities in line with the announcement by the PTF.”
