Troops Kill Scores of Boko Haram, Destroy 13 Gun Trucks in North East
The Nigerian Army troops of
subsidiary Operation Tura Takai Bango in conjunction with the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole
have destroyed 7 gun trucks belonging to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists groups in a combined ground and air operation
at the outskirt of Marte Town in Borno State from January 14 to 20, 2021.
The Air Task Force also effected the destruction of additional 6 gun trucks belonging to Boko Haram and ISWAP while scores of the terrorists were killed in the operation.
The terrorists had on January 16, 2021 attempted to attack the location of troops at the outskirt of Marte Town in Borno State, but the combined troops promptly engaged and overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower.
Troops also decimated several unconfirmed number of the terrorists during the operation, according to a press release made available by the Coordinator of Defence Media Operations, Major General John Eneche, on January 21, 2021.
It was further stated that the attack launched by the terrorists
on the military location in Marte was successfully repelled with the
deployment of Nigerian Air Force helicopter gunships. The gunships had promptly engaged and destroyed the terrorists’ convoy of gun trucks that were sighted approaching the Marte axis for reinforcement. The helicopter gunships also strafed the fleeing terror elements which resulted in the decimation of additional several dozens of the criminals.
Similarly, The troops of Forward Operating Base Kekuwuje have also killed 30 armed bandits while 24 cows and unspecified number of sheep were recovered at Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State during the period under review.
Troops deployed at Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State have also overpowered and killed 5 out of the armed bandits that ambushed the troops shortly before Janbako village during the period in focus.
In another development, troops have also acted on actionable intelligence to effect the arrest of two suspected bandits’ collaborators, Mustapha Sani and Murtala Sani at Dungun Muazu village in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State during the period under review.
In addition, several ground and air operations conducted by the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies have also further degraded the capabilities of
Boko Haram and ISWAP during the period in focus. Evident success of the troops also showed that the terror elements have been denied the freedom of action within the theatre of operation in the period under review.
In the same vein, troops of Sector 3 deployed at Mararaba Udege in conjunction with troops of 177 Battalion in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State arrested a suspected kidnapper from a a hideout at Hawa Biyu during the period in focus.
Also, the troops of Operation Delta Safe have recovered a total of 9,856.1 barrels of stolen crude oil and 1,339,000 litres of illegally refined AGO as well as 500,000 litres of DPK from illegal bunkerers
in the South South region of the country during this period.
Similarly, the troops have also crippled the illegal bunkering activities of criminals in the South south with the immobilization of
6 illegal refining sites, 11 wooden boats, 52 Gee Pee tanks, 102 metal tanks, 17 dugout pits and 45 ovens.
In addition, 24 suspects were arrested while 14 pumping machines, 2 speed boats and 13 outboard engines were recovered during the period in focus.
Moreso, Nigerian Navy Ship DELTA anti-crude oil team in conjunction with Forward Operating Base ESCRAVOS conducted anti illegal bunkering operations which led to the deactivation of illegal refining site at Egwa Creek in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. The deactivated illegal refining site had 7 refining units, 16 metal storage tanks, 84,000 litres of AGO and 105,000 litres of stolen crude oil.
Meanwhile, the Military High Command has encouraged the troops and personnel of other security agencies to remain unwavering and sustain the tempo in all the Joint Operations Areas. Also, the Military High Command has reassured the general public of its determination and dedication towards securing the Nigerian nation.
