Soldiers, police rescue 25 abducted youths in Taraba
A combined team of soldiers and police has rescued 25 youths who were abducted by kidnappers along Wukari-Takum Road in Taraba State on Wednesday.
Acting Police Public Relations Officer in the Taraba State Police Command, ASP. Reform Leha, told The PUNCH that all the abducted youths were rescued unharmed.
Leha who said details about the rescue operation were still sketchy, however, said he would call our correspondent as soon as the facts are available to him.
But an officer who participated in the operation told our correspondent that the rescue operation took several hours in a forest along the Taraba-Benue border.
A relation of one of the rescued youths, Alhaji Baba Muhammed, told journalists that there was a celebration at Anguwan Rogo ward in Takum town where all the youths hail from after the news of their rescue was received.
“I can tell you that the abducted boys have been rescued by a combined team of soldiers and police from Benue and Taraba States.
“We thank the Army, the police, and all those that helped in rescuing the Youths including the media for reporting the incident,” he said.
The kidnappers had on Friday demanded a ransom of N52 million before the boys could be released.
