A combined security operatives of Nigerian Army troops and the personnel of Nigerian Police Force have arrested a 48 years old Awurum Eze, who is one of the main sponsors of killings, arson and violent attacks on police establishments in Imo State.

In a press release made available by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, Awurum Eze was said to have escaped on May 4, 2021 when operatives of Intelligence Response Team (IRT) stormed where he was hiding in his village house at Isiala Mbano.

Meanwhile, intensive manhunt for him eventually led to his arrest on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in Aba after weeks of unrelenting follow-ups by security operatives.

The press release by the Director of Army Public Relations described Awurum Eze as one of the main sponsors of the numerous killings in Imo State and has been on the wanted list of security agents for more than 3 months.

It was further stated that many of the arrested IPOB /ESN terrorists had earlier mentioned Awurum Eze
as their key sponsor, mastermind and Second in Command to late Ikonso.

According to Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, it was confirmed by the earlier arrested members of IPOB/ESN that amongst their leaders in Imo State, only Ikonso and Awurum have direct communication link with Nnamdi Kanu.

Moreso, it was added that Awurum Eze had been seen in several photographs where he posed with the fugitive terrorist leader, Nnamdi Kanu. However, investigation by the combined team of security operatives still continues at the time of filing this report.
