Tokyo Paralympics: FG assure athletes of well-deserved bonuses

The Federal Government has assured Team Nigeria’s athletes of prompt payment of their bonuses at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

Addressing the athletes and officials on Monday at the Team Nigeria Games Village, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Engineer Nebelisa Anako, having encouraged the athletes to put in their efforts said the government would pay their bonuses according to their level of performance.

He stated that there will be no disparity in the bonuses paid the able-bodied athletes and the special athletes.

“All of you are representing Nigeria and you will be treated equally. I want to tell you is that you are here to represent the country and you should also have it in mind that the government is solidly behind you, and is ready to make you all smiles and happy. Your bonuses will be paid as and when dues and it will be based on your level of performance,” Anako said.

Reacting, team captain, Lucy Ejike commended the Ministry of Sports for taking care of their welfare and ensuring adequate training, as she assured that she and her colleagues are ready for the Games.

“We are not going to disappoint Nigerians because all eyes are on us and we are ready to give our best,”Ejike, a world record holder in the up to 67kg para-powerlifting said.

Meanwhile, Nigeria are expected to parade five athletes in para-athletics; 10 in para-powerlifting; one in power rowing and six in para-table tennis.
