S.U.G. PRESIDENCY: WE DESERVE QUALITY EDUCATION

The Student Union Government of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, (RUGIPO), led by Revolutionary Leo Comr. Omoboni Olusola Joseph (Excellent), hereby write to call the attention of His Excellency, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State to the unpalatable situation of eleven (11) months unpaid salary of staff in the institution, which is also affecting the students at large.

We are at a juncture where we can no longer keep silent on this issue of unpaid salary of several months to the lecturers, which is directly and indirectly affecting their lives, families and even the future of Nigerian students.

We are seriously concern about this situation in our citadel, because the joy of the staff is our joy; their convenience, comfort and mental balance leads to our progress and good academic performance.

His Excellency, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, no mater the economic crisis in the State or Country at large, you can still make this people happy, so that they can do their job with comfort, because the staff are dying and falling sick everyday without better treatment.

We all know that every sector in the state has been commercialized without looking at the economic balance of the masses.

How will they cope with their families without payment of salary and we all know that they have responsibilities as parents’ at home?

This unpaid salary and have caused a lot of health challenges and mental unrest to these people.

Meanwhile, there is no way someone can give out the best of his or her knowledge to the students when hungry, because ”an hungry man is an empty man”.

These lecturers think about their families and they think about how to pay dept, while they work for several months without being paid.

This can lead to half baked students and the future of Nigerian students is at stake with this situation.

The institution has now become a place where students contribute and reserve some bottles of coke and water for lecturers during lecture, in case of any emergency, in order to have good education.

Obviously, education is no longer free; however, we have paid and we are demand for quality with sound education.

His Excellency, please look into this with urgency, because it has become unbearable, Inconvenient and an uncomfortable situation for the entire staff and students populace in general.

Moreover, the good and excellent academic performance of the students is no longer guaranteed, as a result of inadequate teaching.

This open letter is to plead on behalf of the entire Polytechnic community concerning their entitlement, even if it is five (5) months salary payment, which we will gladly appreciate, using the Management (Mr. Rector), as a point of contact.

His Excellency, please do whatever you can to give support to the workers, because students are demanding for better and quality education.

A man will never be comfortable, nor balance mentally under frustration and poverty, because ”an injury to one is an injury to all”.
