FIFA honours Asisat Oshoala for joint highest goal-scorer award

World football governing body, FIFA, has honoured Asisat Oshoala with the Pichichi Award, congratulating the Barcelona striker for finishing at the top of the scorers chart in the Primera Iberdrola.

Despite a three-month injury layoff, Oshoala finished the season with 20 goals and three assists in 19 games. Although Real Madrid’s Geyse Ferreira also scored 20 goals and added one assist, she did that in 27 games of the 30-game season.

FIFA praised Oshoala’s play for Barcelona this season in response to her top-scorer honour. From their official Women’s World Cup Twitter handle, FIFA posted: “20 goals and a perfect club season. @AsisatOshoala has always been unstoppable!“

Barcelona Femeni won the 2021/2022 Primera Iberdrola with a perfect record of 30 wins from 30 games, scoring 159 goals and conceding only 11. The Catalan club is in the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where they will face Lyon on May 21 at the Juventus Stadium in Turin.
