Democracy Day: Buhari addresses Nigerians Sunday

President Muhammadu Buhari will make a broadcast to Nigerians on Sunday to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

The government declared every June 12 as Democracy Day in commemoration of the June 12, 1993 presidential election annulled by the military junta of former President Ibrahim Babandiga.

The election regarded the freest and fairest in the history of the country was believed to have been won by candidate of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) late Chief Moshood Kolawole Olawale (MKO) Abiola.

Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed said the President’s message will be on the celebration of Democracy Day.

The Minister, who briefed reporters on plans for the celebration, said about four activities have been lined up for the day including a public lecture at the National Mosque on Friday and Jumat prayers on the same date and venue followed by the President’s address and a service at the National Christian Centre by 3 pm on Sunday.

“The celebration will be concluded with a national parade at the Eagle Square in Abuja on Monday, June 13,” he said.
