Deji of Akure seeks more funding for Tertiary Education

The Deji of Akure Kingdom and the Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Oba (Dr) Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, CFR, Odundun II has appealed to the Federal Government to consider increasing the funding of tertiary education in the country especially the specialised technology related institutions in the country.

Oba Aladetoyinbo stated this during the 31st and 32nd combined convocation ceremonies of the Federal University of Technology, Minna held on 1st February, 2024 at the Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square at the main campus in Gidan Kwano.

In a statement made available by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Adeyeye Michael, the Monarch affirm that since more funding is required for the University to achieve its stated vision and mission, I will continue to appeal to the Federal Government for the release of the established special fund for specialized Universities in the country through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), so that these specialized Universities can champion the country’s technological drive in line with the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda in all the priority areas of governance and as a key driver in Information Technology, Communication and digital-economy initiatives.

On the other hand, the Chancellor praised President Tinubu for approving the removal of Universities and other tertiary institutions in the country from the integrated payroll and personnel information system (IPPIS) describing it as a welcome development for the growth and development of tertiary education. This is a clear indication that the Government is not unmindful of the distinct nature of the educational sector as well as its complexities.

Oba Aladetoyinbo however admonished the graduating Students to always do the things that will enable them maintain peace and high moral standards. He urged them to devote their time to learning and productive venture.

Oba Aladetoyinbo was accompanied by Oba Adeniran Aladetoyinbo, Oba (Dr) Sunday Adebayo, Rear Admiral S.I Alade (Rtd), The Executive Director, Corporate Services NDDC, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Olu Adekunle Ajanaku, Mr. Femi Mese amongst other.
