Imo driver crushes family of six, bike man to death in Owerri
A vehicle plying Etekwuru road in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo state has reportedly killed a man identified as Mr Obi.
Yemiefashonlinenews.com gathered that the deceased, a father of six children, was driving in a shuttle bus alongside one other passenger when he collided with a Hilux vehicle suspected to belong to Water Smith oil company.
The report said the incident happened on Tuesday.
A village source who spoke to newsmen said while the driver died instantly, the passenger sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
The source shared, “The vehicle is owned by Water Smith Oil Producing Company, but when the driver saw the enormity of what he did, he sped off in fear.
“But some motorcycle riders who witnessed the incident immediately went after him and at the gate of the Water Smith, the heavy security agents manning the area intercepted and chased them back.
“The man has six children who are still tender. The fleeing driver works with Water Smith. They would have dealt with him if he was caught.”
Contacting the wife, Mrs Joy Obi, she disclosed that her husband had not died but was in a state of coma in a hospital.
Joy, who spoke with grief, said she was in the same bus but was dropped a moment after they had a head-on collision with the Hilux vehicle.
She lamented, “Water Smith drivers are known for their speed. That is the only thing we have gained from them for having them in our community. We see thousands of them plying this road on a daily basis, and each time they people, they will rush to take shield from the heavy security agents around the area.
“My husband is critically down at the hospital and security agents at Water Smith are guarding the driver. Imo government shouldn’t turn a deaf ear on this matter, because I can’t afford to lose my husband to a reckless driver.”
