Jobless man jailed six months for stealing motorcycle

A 20-year-old unemployed man, Usman Abubakar, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for stealing a motorcycle.

Abubakar, who pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of stealing, was found guilty by Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi.

In addition to the prison term at the Agodi Correctional Facility, Abubakar was given the option of paying a N10,000 fine, considering him a first-time offender.

The stolen motorcycle was returned to its owner as part of the court’s ruling.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Cpl. Akeem Akinloye, had told the court that on March 5 at Aba-Musa Compound at Akinyele in Ibadan, Abubakar stole a Bajaj motorcycle.

Akinloye said the convict stole the motorcycle with registration number MNY 585 QE, valued N780,000, from where it was parked, while the owner, Abdullahi Musa, was working on his farm.

He said the offence was contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390 (10A) of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
