The Ondo State Government has mandated that all private health facilities in the state register and validate their operations. The government warned that any unregistered facilities would face sanctions.

Dr. Adeniran Ikuomola, the Permanent Secretary of the State’s Ministry of Health, announced this directive during a meeting with private health practitioners on Thursday in Akure.

Ikuomola instructed all private health facilities to complete their registration and validation with the Department of Hospital Services in the state. He emphasized that this measure is essential to eliminate quackery and maintain standards in private healthcare practice.

He also reiterated that the ministry is committed to enforcing these regulations to ensure private health practitioners comply. The goal is to foster a well-regulated health system that provides quality services to the people of Ondo State.

“We want to rely on you to help us regulate the system and collaborate with the government to ensure a healthy society and to achieve Universal Health Coverage in our state.

“We are partners in progress, the government cannot do it alone; we need you to give us advice that will help us build the system that will help all of us,” he said.

Speaking on quackery. Ikuomola warned that the state would not condone any private hospital training nurses and said that anyone caught would face the full wrath of the law.

The permanent secretary, therefore, requested the private health practitioners to provide the ministry with their details.

Responding,Dr Saliu Oyelami, the Chairman of the Association of Private Health Practitioners in Ondo State, said that the association did not have any objections to the action of the government as it would help in sanitizing the private practice in the state.

Oyelami told the permanent secretary that all member of the association were fully licensed and registered.

He urged the government to bring back the Colllege of Nursing in Akure in order to have easy access to qualified nurses.b
