BREAKING: Tension In Katsina as protesters storm Buhari’s residence, Emir’s palace

A horde of protesters gathered on Thursday at former President Muhammadu Buhari’s residence in Daura, Katsina State, as part of the #EndBadGovernance movement.

The protest, which became violent in some areas, led to several deaths and prompted curfews in at least three states. Frustrated by the country’s economic troubles, the protesters attempted to breach Buhari’s home, setting up bonfires and loudly chanting “Bama yi! Bama yi! Bama yi!”—a Hausa phrase meaning “we don’t want.”

A witness reported that an unidentified person from Buhari’s residence came out to speak with the protesters. The individual suggested that the crowd choose a representative to voice their concerns, which would be recorded and shown to the former president.

Following this, the protesters moved towards the palace of the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar Farouk. During the ensuing clash, security forces shot one protester in the leg, but the demonstration continued.

An anonymous local resident, who was organizing a student event at the time, reported that the protesters also targeted the residences of Buhari, the Emir, and Magajin Garin Daura.
