Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Friday, paid a condolence visit to the people of Idanre following the passing of their revered monarch, Oba (Dr) Frederick Adegunle Aroloye, Arubiefin IV, the Owa and Paramount Ruler of Idanre Kingdom.

The monarch, who ascended the throne of Owa in 1976 and was the oldest first class Oba in Ondo State, joined his ancestors on July 31, at the age of 102.

During the visit, Aiyedatiwa expressed that the state is not mourning but rather celebrating a life well-lived. He noted that the late Oba Aroloye’s long and fruitful life is something everyone should aspire to, as he was blessed with the opportunity to live to an old age.

“Oba Aroloye lived a fruitful life, and he is one that people should pray to grow as old as before passing on. However, no matter how old the monarch could have been, he is still a father, and his immediate family and the chiefs in the kingdom will miss him. The fact that he won’t be seen again is painful.”

The Governor further highlighted the comfort in knowing that the late monarch was blessed to witness his children lay him to rest, stressing that this was the right time for the Oba to find peace, as ordained by God.

“It is a thing of joy that the king lived to see his children bury him and not the other way around. That is why God has taken him home to rest,” he added.

He described the late monarch as a pillar of unity and a beacon of progress for the Idanre Kingdom. He lauded the late monarch’s unwavering commitment to the development of his people, noting that his contributions would forever be remembered in the annals of Ondo State’s history.

Addressing the future, Governor Aiyedatiwa acknowledged the ongoing process of selecting a new monarch and urged the kingmakers to choose the rightful heir to the throne. He pledged that the government would provide all necessary support during this transition.

The Governor also touched on the ongoing nationwide protest, thanking the people of Idanre for choosing dialogue over protest. He acknowledged the economic hardship facing the country but reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of all citizens by ensuring a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also extended his condolence visit to the private residence of High Chief Olu Akindolire, the regent of Idanre. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the regent’s leadership and diligence in maintaining stability and order in the community during this transitional period following the monarch’s passing.

The Governor commended High Chief Akindolire for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Idanre, ensuring that the kingdom remained united and peaceful as they navigate through this difficult time.

Earlier in his welcome address, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ade Adetimehin, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for his deep respect for tradition. He highlighted the Governor’s prompt response to the monarch’s demise, noting his immediate efforts to reach out and commiserate with the people of Idanre.

On behalf of the royal family, Prince Babatope Aroloye, the late monarch’s first son, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his presence and support during this period of mourning. He prayed for divine strength for the family as they grieve the loss of their father.

High Chief Odunwo Adetuyi, speaking on behalf of the Idanre community, also expressed appreciation to the Governor for his condolence visit. He assured the Governor of the community’s continued prayers and support as he prepares for the upcoming November 16 gubernatorial election, a sentiment echoed by High Chief Lobun Adejisola, the women leader in the kingdom, who affirmed the unwavering support of Idanre women for the Governor.

The Governor was accompanied by members of the state executive council and other top government functionaries.
