Ondo guber candidate, others arrested
The Nigerian Police have detained Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, the 2024 governorship candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) in Ondo State. Alongside Ajayi, Patrick Owolabi, a member of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement, was also apprehended.
Other individuals taken into custody include Oluwatobi Akinkuotu, Kolawole Kumuyi, Olalekan Oladehinde, and several others. The arrests occurred in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State, during the grand finale of the nationwide protest against hunger, hardship, and poor governance, popularly known as #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.
The TIB Movement has strongly condemned the actions of the police, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Ajayi and Owolabi.
In a statement shared on Twitter, the TIB Movement expressed their dismay:
“It’s unfortunate that the @PoliceNG is yet to learn. The continued clampdown on peaceful #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters is a total shame. We condemn the unlawful arrest of Ajayi Wizeman & Patrick Owolabi in Ondo state and we demand their immediate and unconditional release!”
