13-year-old girl has been reportedly raped to death allegedly by local miners at the Tipper Garage area in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The council’s Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Ibrahim Ciroma, who disclosed the incident to Daily Trust through telephone on Sunday, said the girl, who went to hawk milk on Thursday, was declared missing, and that on Friday her corpse was found at the Tipper Garage area.
He said the corpse’s private parts were stained with blood and she was taken to the hospital where doctors confirmed that she was raped.
He further said, “The incident has been reported to the police, and God be the glory, some miners suspected to be behind the crime have been arrested.”
It was further learnt that the incident almost degenerated into a crisis as herders mobilised to the area in an attempt to attack the miners but the quick intervention of security agents doused the situation.
The spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, saying “seven suspects had been arrested.”
